Roy Wood, the legendary frontman of Wizzard and composer of the iconic festive hit I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday, has teamed up with SPAR for a unique Christmas campaign. The initiative, titled SPARaoke, invites shoppers to embrace the festive spirit through in-store karaoke, offering a chance to win prizes and spread holiday cheer.
Building on the success of this summer’s SPARaoke, the Christmas edition was unveiled at SPAR Western Downs earlier this month. A.F. Blakemore & Son, the UK-based wholesaler behind SPAR stores, has confirmed that the event will run across 100 stores in the Midlands, South East England, and Wales.
Roy Wood expressed his delight at being part of the campaign, saying: “I wrote this song to bring joy at Christmas, and the idea of making shopping more fun and festive really appealed to me. Even after 50 years, it’s heartening to see how much the song continues to mean to people.”
The campaign, which officially launches on Saturday 23 November and runs until 14 December, coincides with SPAR’s BIG DEALS promotion. On four consecutive Saturdays, shoppers will have the opportunity to sing along to I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday as it plays over SPAR’s in-store radio. Participants will grab the SPAR microphone to perform and stand a chance to win their shopping basket, a 500ml Coca-Cola, and an entry into the Grand Prize Draw. The top prize? A fully funded Christmas from SPAR, valued at up to £1,800.
SPAR’s Group Marketing Director, Sarah Ellis, highlighted the importance of creating memorable experiences for customers. “Christmas is a competitive season, but for us, it’s about adding joy and engaging with our local communities. Partnering with Roy Wood, whose music has become synonymous with the holidays, helps us achieve this. SPARaoke is not just a celebration of Christmas but also of our hardworking store teams who play an integral role in the communities they serve.”
Coca-Cola, a longstanding partner of SPAR, also features prominently in the campaign, adding to its festive appeal.
The initiative offers a unique twist to Christmas shopping, encouraging customers to seize the microphone when they hear the iconic song and take their moment to shine. Whether they win big or simply enjoy the experience, the campaign promises to bring laughter and music to the shop floor, echoing the festive spirit of community and togetherness.
With its innovative approach and nostalgic partnership, SPARaoke Christmas is poised to become a seasonal highlight for shoppers and music lovers alike. Visit www.afblakemore.com
