Global sailing apparel brand Helly Hansen has extended its long-standing partnership with The Ocean Race, the world-renowned team sailing challenge. The agreement, which will continue through 2031, includes the provision of high-performance gear for race personnel, partners, and the on-water race management team across two race cycles.
The first cycle will feature The Ocean Race Europe in 2025, The Ocean Race Atlantic in 2026, and the iconic around-the-world competition in 2027. The partnership combines Helly Hansen’s 150 years of expertise in performance-driven apparel with the gruelling demands of The Ocean Race, often described as the toughest professional team sporting event.
The Ocean Race tests sailors in extreme conditions, from equatorial heat to the frigid waters of the Southern Ocean, navigating iconic landmarks such as Cape Horn. It is renowned as the ultimate challenge for both athletes and their equipment, making it an ideal platform for Helly Hansen’s innovation.
Carrie Ask, CEO of Helly Hansen, celebrated the renewed collaboration: “The Ocean Race is not only the toughest team sporting event but also the toughest testing lab for our apparel. This partnership fuels our innovation while aligning with our shared commitment to respecting and protecting the environment. We look forward to inspiring action and building awareness of ocean health globally.”
The sustainability aspect of the partnership is a central focus, with Helly Hansen continuing its support for The Ocean Race’s “Racing with Purpose” programme. This initiative leverages sport to raise awareness and inspire action for ocean conservation.
Race Chairman Richard Brisius expressed enthusiasm about the renewed collaboration. “Helly Hansen has been a trusted partner, sharing our vision for advancing sailing and protecting the oceans. Their expertise enhances the experience for our race teams and brings added value to our commitment to ocean health.”
The Ocean Race is entering a new phase, described as an “always-on” era, featuring expanded events and continuous ocean health initiatives. The upcoming races will include the cutting-edge foiling IMOCA class, where innovation and technology drive record-breaking performance. The 2027 race, beginning in Alicante, Spain, and concluding in AMAALA, Saudi Arabia, after six months, is set to be the highlight of this new era.
To further engage fans, Helly Hansen will launch an official merchandise collection, available online and at Ocean Live Park race villages, starting with The Ocean Race Europe in 2025.
The partnership reflects a shared passion for sailing, innovation, and environmental stewardship, promising exciting developments for competitors and fans alike. To stay updated on the partnership between Helly Hansen and The Ocean Race, visit hellyhansen.com.
