Hamad International Airport (DOH) has officially opened Concourse E as part of its latest terminal expansion programme, introducing new facilities designed to enhance passenger experience, accessibility, and sustainability. The expansion adds 51,000 square metres of space, featuring eight new contact gates that aim to reduce reliance on remote boarding and improve overall efficiency.
The newly inaugurated concourse represents a 20% increase in boarding capacity at the airport, which has consistently been recognised as one of the world’s best. Hamad International Airport has confirmed that further developments, including the expansion of Concourse D, will be announced in the coming weeks.
Enhanced Passenger Experience
Concourse E has been designed to improve the travel experience through a range of upgraded facilities. These include self-boarding gates that allow passengers to scan their boarding passes automatically, reducing wait times and streamlining the departure process.
In addition, the concourse incorporates universal design principles to enhance accessibility for all travellers. Features such as hearing loops, ramps, elevators, and spacious seating areas ensure that passengers with disabilities can navigate the terminal with ease. Ergonomic seating equipped with built-in power outlets has also been introduced, catering to passengers’ comfort and convenience.
Retail and dining options have been expanded within the concourse, offering a variety of shopping and food outlets for travellers in transit. The addition of these amenities aligns with Hamad International Airport’s ongoing efforts to maintain its reputation as a leading global travel hub.
Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability is at the forefront of Concourse E’s design, with the incorporation of advanced energy-efficient systems and optimised water management solutions. Thermal comfort has been improved through innovative infrastructure, reinforcing the airport’s dedication to minimising environmental impact while maintaining high operational standards.
Hamad Ali Al-Khater, Chief Operating Officer at Hamad International Airport, described the expansion as a key milestone in the airport’s long-term development strategy.
“We are thrilled to see this modern concourse come to life, providing our passengers with a more seamless and comfortable travel experience,” he said. “This expansion reflects our commitment to delivering world-class facilities that emphasise efficiency, accessibility, and sustainability. With the launch of Concourse E, travellers can experience the first phase of a transformative expansion aimed at elevating every aspect of their journey.”
Further Expansion Plans
While Concourse E represents a major step in enhancing Hamad International Airport’s capacity, further expansion plans are already in motion. The airport has confirmed that details regarding the development of Concourse D will be shared in the coming weeks.
