Teesside-based Caswells Group has expanded its operations with the acquisition of Macclesfield-based Cutler Cleaning for a six-figure sum. The deal, valued at £1.6 million, marks Caswells’ second acquisition in just two years and further strengthens its position in the PPE, janitorial, and safety supplies market.
Founded in 1962, Caswells Group has been supplying businesses across the UK with a wide range of products, including personal protective equipment (PPE), janitorial supplies, safety equipment, and hose/hydraulic solutions. The acquisition of Cutler Cleaning, a company established in 1982, enhances Caswells’ portfolio, particularly in the cleaning and janitorial supplies sector.
Paul Murphy, Commercial Director at Caswells, explained that the acquisition was a natural step for the company. “We’ve worked with Cutlers for around 10 years as Jangro colleagues, and we share a similar business ethos. There is a complementary skill set between the two companies, and our teams have collaborated closely over the years. Like us, Cutlers has a loyal, long-standing customer base, so it made perfect sense to bring them into the Caswells family. We’re excited for this next chapter and look forward to working with their team.”
Cutler Cleaning, which boasts an annual turnover of £4.5 million, operates a fleet of 10 vehicles and a 14,000-square-foot warehouse. The company supplies a wide range of cleaning, janitorial, and PPE products, making it a valuable addition to Caswells’ expanding operations. As part of the acquisition, Caswells has retained all 25 staff members from Cutlers.
Paul Whitehead, the former managing director of Cutlers, expressed confidence in the deal. “I had been looking to retire and sell the business, but it was important to me that the interests of our customers and staff were protected throughout the process,” he said. “Having worked with Caswells for many years, I’m confident that this is a positive move for the business. It will ensure the ongoing success of Cutlers and be of great benefit to both parties.”
The acquisition comes just two years after Caswells’ first major acquisition and is a part of the company’s strategy to expand its reach across the UK. The Teesside-based company has a strong reputation for its commitment to high-quality products and customer service, and this latest acquisition further solidifies its position as a leading supplier in its field.
Caswells Group has a history of supporting local causes, including donations to Butterwick Hospice and The Moses Project. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company made significant contributions, providing PPE and sanitising products to local hospitals and charitable organisations.
The deal was advised by Anderson Barrowcliffe and Knights Plc for Caswells Group, while Cutler Cleaning was advised by Higgs LLP.
As Caswells continues to expand its operations, this acquisition marks an important milestone in its growth strategy, with further opportunities likely to follow in the coming years.
